Cynthia Victorian Hockenhull, smiling at a family celebration

Our story · In loving memory

Cynthia Victorian Hockenhull

The mother who showed us that no one is beyond recovery.

"No regrets."

What she always said

Cynthia Victorian Hockenhull was born and raised in Oakland, California.

For a period of her life, she struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol. During those years she wasn't able to raise her three daughters. At one point, she was homeless on the same Oakland streets where she grew up.

That isn't where her story ends.

Cynthia leaned on the support her community offered: treatment clinics, housing programs, and people who believed she could change. She used those resources to rebuild her life, one day at a time. And she did. She became an amazing mother.

The woman we remember

  • Loving

    She loved without conditions.

  • A giver

    She gave whatever she had.

  • Hopeful

She saw the good in every situation.

Why Victorian Integrated Health Care exists

Victorian Integrated Health Care was founded in her honor, and the Victorian Foundation alongside it.

The same kinds of help that changed our mother's life are what we offer today: treatment that treats people with dignity, safe and sober housing, and a community that doesn't give up on anyone.

Every person who walks through our door is somebody's mother, father, son, or daughter. In each of them, we see what our mother proved: recovery is real, families can heal, and it's never too late to begin again.

Our mission is simple: Equality in Healthcare, Integrity and Community.

Recovery is possible. We've seen it.

Most people are seen the same day. One call is all it takes to start.
